Selection Based On Documents And Footage

Applications must be submitted between 00:00 hours on Monday, February 5, 2024, and 23:59 hours, Thursday, May 9, 2024, Japan time.
The application form will be published on the website during the above schedule.


Awards

1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes will be awarded to winning contestants, and finalists who do not win any of the prizes will receive honorable mentions.
If any of the prizes is awarded to two or more contestants, each winner will receive the prize and the full cash award.
If no finalist is considered deserving of a particular prize, then that prize shall not be awarded.

The prizes and cash awards are as follows:

1st Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 2,000,000 yen
2nd Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 1,000,000 yen
3rd Prize: Certificate, medal, and cash award of 500,000 yen

 

Special Award (the Hideo Saito Award):

A special award (the Hideo Saito Award) is presented to a finalist selected by the Panel of Judges. It could also happen that no one is selected to receive this award.

Hideo Saito (1902-1974) was a great conductor, cellist, and educator who trained many internationally acclaimed musicians including Seiji Ozawa. He also served as the chairperson of the first Panel of Judges of the Min-On Tokyo International Music Competition for Conducting. The Hideo Saito Award was established to honor and commemorate the great maestro’s numerous accomplishments and contribution to this competition from its early days, and to nurture capable musicians who can follow in his footsteps. The award (including a cash award of 500,000 yen) is funded by donations from Hideo Saito’s family.

 

Encouragement Award

An encouragement award, which includes a cash award of 150,000 yen, shall be given to each finalist receiving an honorable mention (excluding 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize winners).

All the winners are required to attend the press conference as scheduled below:

Debut Concerts for Prize Winners and Supplementary Awards

In order to introduce the winners to the largest possible audience, debut concerts will be held on the following dates. All winners are required to perform at these concerts, for which they will be paid performance fees and the specified amount toward travel and accommodation expenses.
